Originating in the Celtic culture, Halloween marked the end of the harvest and the start of the dark, cold winter. This time of year was associated with human death, and on the night of October 31st, the ancient Celts thought the boundaries between the living and dead blurred. Although a spirit of mischief remains a part of Halloween today, it is much more of a community-centered holiday, featuring dancing, storytelling, block parties, and costumed parades.
